John Schneeberger is the Democratic candidate for SD 43 in Hamilton, competing against Republican, Jason Ellsworth.
I had never heard of Schneeberger (June 8 opinion letter), so I looked him up. It is obvious that he has Trump Derangement Syndrome and is NOT a candidate who should represent the Bitterroot Valley in the state legislature based on what he stated on his own website.
“… My campaign will focus on raising awareness on these points:
The 2020 presidential election was not stolen.
There is no such thing as wide-spread voter fraud, in the United States, large enough to affect the outcome of elections.
The danger to our system of elections comes from the radicals in the Republican party who want to make it harder for people to vote and easier for partisans to overturn the results of the elections.
This is part of a dangerous, world-wide rush toward authoritarianism that is a threat to our Republic.”
John is sorely out of touch with what Americans are thinking both here in the valley and nationally: March 28, 2022: New Peer-Reviewed Research Finds Evidence of 2020 Voter Fraud – Real Clear Politics and John Lott.
“…By a margin of 52% to 40%, voters believe that cheating affected the outcome of the 2020 U.S. presidential election,” according to a Rasmussen Report survey from this month. This stands in stark contrast to the countless news stories editorializing about “no evidence of voter fraud,” and “the myth of voter fraud.” Even 34% of Democrats believe it, as do 38% of those who “somewhat” support President Biden.”
John’s progressive Democratic values are on clear display when he also resorts to calling valley citizens names. “Radical Republicans? This is akin to a failed Democratic presidential candidate who called us a “Basket of Deplorables” because we chose someone else to represent us. We the “radical Republicans” voted 56.6% for Trump in Montana in 2016 according to the Washington Examiner.
John, understand that we prefer Jason Ellsworth’s approach much better: Lower taxes, maintaining gun rights, and transparency of actions while in the senate.
Oh, by the way, John, please explain what is “radical” about having selected a president who doesn’t have dementia, had gas at $2.38 a gallon here in the Bitterroot in 2020, as opposed to $4.90 currently and going up? Or asking for voter ID and registration BEFORE election day, or wanting to keep illegals out of the USA who should wait in line and appreciate the right to come to the greatest country on earth?
I know which candidate I prefer but it’s up to you voters whom you will choose at the next election to be Senator for SD43. Do your own research, make your own choice, and then get out and vote.

John Lott Jr is nota credible source. From the conservative think tank, “The Hoover Institute”;
“In a recent paper, John Lott Jr. claims to find evidence of anti-Trump fraud in the absentee counting procedure in Fulton County, Georgia, and Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Using Lott’s own data, we show that his claims are utterly baseless. Lott uses an unusual estimation strategy that suffers from a subtle but fundamental flaw: his conclusions about fraud in Fulton and Allegheny counties are entirely dependent on the completely arbitrary order in which pairs of precincts in other counties are entered in the dataset. When we rerun Lott’s analysis using an alternative but equally justifiable coding rule, the evidence for anti-Trump fraud in these two counties entirely disappears. When we replace Lott’s unusual specification with a more standard estimation strategy, we find absolutely no evidence of fraud. In short, Lott’s (2020) analysis provides no evidence of anything distinctive or suspicious about the absentee ballot results in either Fulton County or Allegheny County.”

Gomez – the same thing was also said about. Dr Franks and Mike Lyndells results. Believe whom you want….its your right to do so.

We are all entitled to our own opinions. We are not entitled to our own facts. That you would actually cite that goofy pillow guy as a credible source is almost hard to believe. You’re not serious, are you?

“The idea of saying the election was stolen is bullshit.”
“He has become detached from reality if he really believes this stuff”

Hi Helen,
From the frequency and authority which you write on local issues, I just assumed you were a local yourself. However, when you wrote above, ” I had never heard of Schneeberger (June 8 opinion letter), so I looked him up.” I thought “how is that possible? I have been aware of Mr. Schneeberger and his work since I first came to the valley in 1982. I have always found that he has a thoughtful and measured approach to issues both social and natural.
When did you come to the Bitterroot?
As for the rest of your letter re. election fraud…I could point you towards the litany of Republican officials from the Trump administration who are stating under oath that they knew there was no “big steal”, but I fear you would remain ignorant of those facts much as you appear to have remained ignorant of the excellent reputation of Mr. Schneeberger.
As Upton Sinclair once noted, “It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends on his not understanding it.”

Bitterrooter – my family has been a part of Montana since the 1800’s. Three on my dad’s side are buried in the Corvallis cemetery and one on y grandmother’s side in Billings. We have been part of the Valley since 2009 coming up and staying as long as we could afford to do so while looking for a home to buy that we could afford. it’s a shame that more can’t come too. This is truly God’s country. The same houses that we looked at years ago are now over a million dollars and we can’t afford them either.
Perhaps there is a hand that guided us to find our current one as it was the last trip we were going to make here before looking in Idaho and Wyoming and it was the last house we saw before leaving the valley. What we did find is that many liars live in the valley. We bid on at least 50 houses and in every case, the owners, some of whom were realtors, lied about their water rights. Gary Evans of Bitterroot Water Research – God bless him – found out that the owner’s claims and what the legal documents showed were not the same. It’s a shame the valley has that stain on it as many here are true patriotic Americans who love guns, God, and their families. Those are my kind of people and since Ellsworth is doing a good job so far there is NO reason to vote for Schneeberger especially since he has TDS nor listen to your recommendation for him based on known-ing him. Sorry, Bitterrooter – maybe you ought to really check Schneeberger out. Ask him what local representatives and senators are supposed to be worried about and it isn’t whether TRUMP won or not.
