Corvallis won the boys title in Class A. In cross-country, the lower the score, the better the position. Corvallis scored 70 points. Lewistown and Hardin tied for second with 104 points each. Glendive was fourth with 145 points. Hamilton finished in sixth with 161 points. Stevensville finished in 17th place.
Cameron Meikle of Hamilton won the individual title. He crossed the finish line of the 3.1 mile race in 15:26.3. The only other Bronc to place in the top 25 was Matt Wilson who was seventh with a time of 16:00.7.
Ronald Venema of Corvallis paced the Blue Devils, finishing second with a time of 15:37.53. The Blue Devils had three more runners in the top 25. Josh Jessop was ninth with a time of 16:10.01. Carson Jessop was 12 with 16:22.02 and Andrew Jessop was 21st with 16:45.29.
“I knew new that if our boys ran like they could, they would win,” said JoAnne Cleveland, Corvallis coach. “Our girls, I wasn’t sure with their injuries. Andrew Jessop did a great job. Spencer Jessop was number 5 and he’d never been to state. He did well.”
Stevensville Hunter Casey finished 11th with a time of 16:18.69.
Darby finished sixth in the Class C race behind the first place finish of Evan Duggan. He finished the race in 16:09.97, 40 seconds faster than second place.
The finish order was the same for the girls in Class A. Hamilton’s Jaycie Schmalz won the race with a time of 18:26.22 while Corvallis won the team title with a score of 103. Whitefish was second with 114 points. Hardin and Polson followed and Hamilton finished in fifth with 164 points. Stevensville finished 18th.
Corvallis was led by Albany Jessop who finished in fourth place with a time of 19:35.61. Lyn Reynoso was 15 with 20:00.56. Heidi Nisly was 18th with 20:21.93.
“Julia Hickey really stepped up. So did Lynn Reynoso. She’s been solid all year,” said Cleveland.
In addition to Schmalz, Hamilton’s Keelie O’Brien finished in 24th place with a time of 20:43.85.
Darby’s Lily Lang finished in fifth place with a time of 19:29.77. Bailee Parker of West Yellowstone won the Class C girl’s race.
