Immigrants

January 31, 2024 by Guest Post

by Mary Fahnestock-Thomas, Hamilton

Rumor has it that our MAGA-dominated House of Representatives in Congress complains about immigration all the time but refuses to act on President Biden’s repeated urging to do something about it, because Trump wants it to be his big selling point for the presidency.

We do realize, don’t we, that most of our food in this country is raised, harvested, and transported to our tables by immigrants? And that it’s mostly immigrants who keep our buildings and streets clean and food ready for us at restaurants? Why ? Because many white Americans don’t want those jobs.

Okay, okay! But they should be LEGAL immigrants! Back to Congress then – but the extremists have their heels dug in. They apparently want to get rid of government altogether and so refuse to work within the system that pays them and provides their jobs and benefits.

Republicans complain that immigrants are both collecting welfare and taking all the jobs. Do you see the contradiction there?

And while we have shooting after shooting after shooting, in schools, shopping malls, churches, and so on – none of these shootings seem to be perpetrated by those untold numbers of criminals, rapists, and drug dealers crossing the southern border that we hear so much about.

The comments made by Ms. Mary Fahnestock-Thomas are for the most part patently false. I will take each one separately:
    1. “Maga-dominated House will support Biden’s demands to do something” : Joe Biden has all the tools necessary to secure/control the border and does not need further legislation. By the stroke of his pen, he undid Trump’s border control so by a stroke of a pen, Biden could secure/close the border.
    2. I will not enter into the “Most of our food is raised, harvested to our tables by immigrants”. That is patently false. How many “immigrants” are in Mt. raising our food or driving the trucks that deliver the food to stores?
    3. “Republicans claim the immigrants are collecting welfare and taking all the jobs” : We are spending in excess of $250billion annually to house, medicate, and otherwise support migrants who are in our country illegally.
    4. “We have shooting after shooting after shooting and none of these perpetuated by those crossing our southern borders” : There are many news articles that indicate crime of all types, thefts, rapes, murders have increased due to these illegals here. Just recently I read where a person disguised himself as a Fed EX driver shot and killed 3 people in a house. I read where a group of illegals in NYC attacked police officers.
It would be refreshing to see someone posting here that would look at reality instead of having their opinions clouded by politics and hatred toward Trump or other politicians.
