by Susan Roman (for) Ravalli County Republican Central Committee
The Ravalli County Republican Central Committee hereby proclaims its support for the Montana Freedom Caucus’ call to the Montana State Legislature for a Special Session to address property taxes in the following ways:
1. Return surplus tax revenue to the Citizens.
2. Put a “Taxpayer Bill of Rights” referendum on the ballot for the next election cycle to allow Citizens to vote on this important issue.
3. Clarify the law surrounding the Property Tax Mill Levy calculation and process.
4. Reduce the current 95 mills to 85, providing permanent property tax relief.
These efforts WILL NOT affect school funding in any way.
We appreciate the efforts of the Montana Freedom Caucus chairman, who is our own Senator Theresa Manzella, as well as the Ravalli County Freedom Caucus member, Representative Ron Marshall. We encourage all other Ravalli County legislators to support this call to the Montana State Legislature for a Special Session to address Property Taxes.

Illinois of all places has a homestead exemption. If somebody has lived in their home for 30 years and is retired, their property tax is about a dollar. I would like to see that here. I personally wouldn’t qualify as I’m a few decades from retirement, but I’d like to see our seasoned citizens get a property tax break.
