Saving the college

June 1, 2022 by Guest Post

by Charles E. Wissenbach, Pinesdale

How can we save our college?

The levy failed, what’s next?

Three divisions suggested:

1. Prep (great – exactly like now);

2. Rigorous (accreditable anywhere);

3. World class (unique, high tuition).

Funding suggestions:

1. Short-term levies (never forever).

2. Voluntary (taxpayer may self-exempt from any levy).

3. Supervised (advisory board of two non-government employees from each school district signs off on all levy withdrawals by trustees. Nothing for buildings and grounds).

Trustees might submit a mission statement committing to citizen input and control, forever leaving sex, politics, religion and ideology to parents, pastors, and political parties.

Let’s exchange ideas to prevent losing this chance for a terrific local college.

    The UM is the one who should decide if they want to fund the college and repair the building in which it is housed. Why should we pay for something that is poorly attended, has little interest in it from residents according to the trustees own study done by burning glass that stated, “There is little interest in getting an AA degree.” Online is a wonderful choice and can be done from home, without spending money on expensive gas thanks to the Biden Administration, and is good as you can ask questions, hear what others are thinking and even record the lessons to listen to later. A short drive to Missoula is another option for education. The Summit Career Center in Stevensville which offers many of the same classes offered at the college currently is another option. THREE OPTIONS to get an education! We DO NOT need to have another college here in the valley. We can’t afford one, there is little interest in one, and there are options.
