An unbelievable President

April 7, 2020 by Guest Post

By David Welch, Hamilton

Trump didn’t cause the COVID-19 pandemic. But he sure has made it worse in our country.

We had plenty of warning; plenty of time to put in place a mitigation strategy which would have saved thousands of lives and billions of dollars. After all, the U.S. is the world leader in medical and scientific innovation.

Instead, due to an epic failure of leadership, we squandered the time we had to prepare for the coming crisis. Our Federal government is led by a pathological narcissist who cares more about his television ratings than the health and welfare of our citizens. A man who is incapable of purposely telling the truth. An unbelievable president.

Before the epidemic exploded in this country, Trump’s constant barrage of lies convinced many people that everything was going to be fine. That he had everything under control. That fifteen cases in late February would soon go to zero. That anyone who needed a test could get a test. Lie after lie after lie. Until finally the window of opportunity closed for putting in place South Korea’s successful model of mitigation and now we’re stuck on the dismal path of Italy and Spain.

Many have wondered over the past three years what it would be like if the country faced a genuine crisis while we have such a petty little self-serving person in the White House. Now we know. And it isn’t pretty.

Goodness gracious, Mike Mercer, what is it you actually want? We should have someone from the army, in conjuction with the CDC, leading this pandemic crisis. Pros at getting what states need and when they need it. Not an egotisical self centered former real estate mogul. Obama did not drop the ball. Matter of fact he had the whole pandemic response team ready for Trump. Trump got rid of it, plain and simple.
Everyone is entitled to his own opinions but not to his own facts. It would behoove you to learn the difference.

What do I want? Honest science, of which we have seen none in a very long time. I have friend who worked with Malaria for decades and knows a thing or two about the drug said to knock Covid-19 down. Been in use for over 50 years but when Trump liked it the media was against it, how’s that for honest science. You want to end this, then let medicine use what it already has in its arsenal, put on your mask and go back to work.
P.S. The pandemic team quit and has since been replaced, draw your own conclusions.

I’m not here to defend any “Public Servant” who acts in their own self interest, of which we have many, but Trump ain’t one of them. He has a style many people admire and many disapprove of for whatever reason. Face it; he is the junkyard dog that we called on to do one job that he is uniquely qualified to do, bite the ass off those who steal from us. If you say he lied and want to count how many times he did so, knock yourself out just as long as he keeps his teeth sharp I could care less…sophomoric? Perhaps but sophistication is overrated and of no use in these times, which will pass and you can vote in a nice POTUS after that who is obedient, one you can pet without fear of being bitten.

You have given an excellent description of the typical Trump supporter: a dishonest (“If you say he lied…I could care less.” ), gullible (…”public servant who acts in their own self interest…Trump ain’t one of them.” ) rube (“…sophistication is overrated…” ) with a penchant for violence ( “…he is a junkyard dog we called on to … bite the ass of those who steal from us.” )

I see things differently and have a different set of priorities, it is still allowed…for now anyway. I will leave you with this from the “Meditations of Marcus Aurelius” and I quote “Every man is worth just so much as the things are worth about which he busies himself”.

The Trump administration had over 3 years to make sure the federal stockpile was properly restored. “ Zero responsibility” by Trump is not surprising, and it’s a sad fact that some Americans still believe lie after lie being spewed from him, during a major health emergency.

I think you need to adjust your sights, as the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) did its best to make sure that its virus would spread to the American homeland and the rest of the world while the World Health Organization said not to worry. Just after the H1N1 pandemic it had been assumed that about 70,000 ventilators should be stockpiled, but due to a failure of oversight by the Obama administration, the project ultimately produced zero ventilators. Hating Trump does not change those facts…among many other facts.

Once again, you have shown that you have no interest in truth. You have presented no facts; only baseless – and rather sophomoric – conspiracy theories.

Trump is a liar and a fraud, believed by only the most gullible among us.
