The Stevensville Ranger District has announced that it is closing McClain Creek Road #1311 north of Florence due to a damaged culvert burned in last summer’s fire. A section of the plastic culvert which runs underneath the road was melted by the Lolo Peak fire and now the road is in danger of collapsing making travel unsafe. Forest crews discovered the damage earlier this week.
The road is closed at mile marker 2.6 and crews have installed signs and a barricade alerting motorists to the closure. The public is asked to respect the closure and not attempt to drive around or remove the barricades until repairs can be made. Crews will repair the road as soon as a contractor can be hired. The road will likely be closed for several weeks.
Notify your local Forest Service office of any road damage, downed trees, plugged culverts or flooding conditions on Forest Service roads. For more information contact the Stevensville Ranger District at (406) 777-5461.
