The Historic St Mary’s Mission staff and volunteers developed a commemorative calendar for the 175th Anniversary Celebration in 2016. It has been brought to our attention that the caption for the Lone Rock School is not totally accurate.
Our research was taken from the “Montana Genesis” 1971, pages 219-227. Since this book was published, the Lone Rock School Past and Present by the Lone Rock Centennial Committee documented this history of the school. “Lone Rock School was built in 1885 on land and lumber donated by Marshall Franks. He and his brothers built the school by a large boulder. The second school was built in 1899 of lumber about two miles north of the first. In 1914, a brick building was constructed. In 1973, part of the boulder was moved to the present site. The school through the years has been modified and enlarged. It’s supposedly the longest continuously used school in the valley.”
We apologize for any inaccurate information. We have documented our resources and we believed the information to be correct.
We hope you will enjoy the beautiful prints of the paintings selected by Ella Buckallew. Ella prides herself on the accuracy of her renditions.
We wish we could have included more of the remarkable buildings historic to Stevensville and are sorry if one of your favorites is not in the commemorative calendar. Thank you for your continued support.
