Victor Park memories

February 25, 2014 by Editor

When the Victor Garden Club gave up our much loved Victor Park to the county, a whole bunch of memories came flooding back to me.

When I see Gene Buroker, Victor shop owner, he says, “Louise, why don’t you and I do Chief Victor Days – we could do it, I know we could!”

Gene was always one of those volunteers that was ready to help wherever he was needed. He always helped get the stages ready for our volunteer entertainment and our street dance bands.

I was the volunteer to get all our entertainment for 20 years and loved every moment of it.

The Deby Bush Band brought us the largest crowd to ever gather in Victor for a street dance in the parking lot behind the Farmers State Bank.

One year we danced on Main Street in the rain. The band had a covered stage.

The big Community Band always came and Chris Kingsley loved to sing in the park. Many musicians volunteered every year. In 1997, the Rob Quist Band was the most expensive one we ever hired.

After Martin’s Inn was torn down, we did not get as many dancers for the street dance.

We loved having the Flathead Salish come to be in our Saturday parade and dance in the park. Our own Carmel Garnett used to dance also.

We all looked forward to Chief Victor Days and often family reunions were planned.

Not many small Montana towns have a beautiful park like Victor has.
