Fire on the mountain

Garden of 1,000 Buddhas reaches into Bitterroot

A Garden of 1,000 Buddhas. It sounds like something you might see in Tibet. Or Nepal. Or even India. But in Arlee, Montana? More...






“Build it and I will come,” said the Dalai Lama about the Buddhist Peace Center, envisioned by Gochen Tulku Sang-ngag Rinpoche, that is now becoming a reality in Arlee, Montana. Rinpoche, on the left, is pictured here with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.






At the center of the Garden of 1,000 Buddhas is Prajnaparamita, the Great Mother, also called “Yum Chenmo” in Tibetan. Her image represents compassion for all living beings married with the wisdom of complete understanding. Seated on a lion’s throne this figure reaches 24 feet in height.







The acuostic duo, Joan Zen, will be playing at a fundraiser for the Garden of 1,000 Buddhas to be held this Thursday, September 2, at River Rising Bakery on Main Street in Hamilton, from 6 to 9 pm.
