Forest projects

The Sula Ranger District on the Bitterroot National Forest is planning to temporarily close Meadow Creek Road (road 725) at the intersection of Swift Echo Road (road 5764), as crews work to replace the Swift Creek Bridge.  The closure will begin September 14th and is expected to last two weeks.  The 60-year-old wood bridge was beginning to deteriorate and had become a safety concern.

Funding for the project comes from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) and will enhance access to recreational opportunities, provide for visitor safety, and help address maintenance issues at developed recreation sites.  Allan Probst Construction of Salmon, Idaho is completing the work.  For more information contact the Sula Ranger District (406) 821-3201.

Elsewhere on the Forest, the Stevensville Ranger District is planning to close Charles Waters Campground, starting September 16th, to finish sealing the pavement.  The project is weather dependent and the campground will remain closed until the sealing is completed and dry.  The project is expected to take 2-3 days.

When Charles Waters Campground re-opens, fall season will be in place and no fees will be charged.  For more information, contact the Stevensville Ranger District at (406) 777-5461.
