County attorney clarifies interim zoning density restrictions

By Michael Howell

County Attorney George Corn set the Planning Department and the County Commissioners straight last week when he issued his opinion regarding the question of whether the Interim Zoning Regulation's restriction on development that limits density to one dwelling per 2 acres applies to lot size or average density. Contrary to both the Planning Department and County Commissioners' interpretation that it meant "average density," Corn came down heavy last week on the side of "minimum lot size." More...

With a simple "Let's play!" the last hockey game of the season was held Saturday morning southwest of Victor at Steve Elliot and Lucy Brieger's pond. About 16 people of all ages gathered one last time to strp on the skates and have a game. The games have been a regular occurance on McVey Pond since the ice set up earlier this winter. Prior to the game, more experienced players gave instruction to those with not as much experience. Players played "up" - in the middle of the pond, or "back" - closer to the goals. The skaters rotated positions and sat out as needed in a very informal yet formal manner. As the sun warmed the pond, the top layer of ice neart the edges was wet with water but Elliot said the ice was very thick in the middle. On one side of the pond, three Angus cows munched on hay while around the edge of the pond the family dog raced, trying to keep track of the puck. Shown are Lucy, Steve and Toby.
