Class of ’56 wants to replant poplars

At the turn of the century wealthy mining magnate Marcus Daly began planting stately poplar trees, commonly referred to now as the ‘Daly Cottonwoods’, not only around his Riverside mansion near Hamilton, but all around the valley. Many of the stately giants still survive, shading homesteads and lining roadsides from one end of the Bitterroot valley to the other. More...





Most of the Daly Cottonwoods that grace the old homesteads and roadsides of the Bitterroot Valley are approaching the end of their lifespan. Planning report stirs controversy

A ‘minority report’ passed on from the Ravalli County Planning Board to the County Commissioners on proposed changes to the subdivision regulations concerning the effects of subdivision on agriculture drew heated response from a group of citizens last week. From 25 to 30 people showed up at the County Commissioners’ office on Tuesday and again on Wednesday to protest the report’s recommendations as an illegal infringement on private property rights and a violation of the Constitution. Spreadbury seeks new hearing

Former Hamilton mayoral candidate Michael Spreadbury, in a motion and affidavit filed December 30, has asked Hamilton City Court Judge Michael Reardon to reconsider the restraining order that was issued against him in November precluding any contact with Hamilton Library Director Nansu Roddy. He also wants the judge to remove himself from the bench for misconduct. More...

The City of Hamilton, Ravalli County, and the Montana Department of Transportation (MDT) are completing a comprehensive, area-wide Transportation Plan. The updated Plan, called the Hamilton Area Transportation Plan (2009 Update), examines all forms of ground transportation, including non-motorized uses, within the study area boundary. More...
