Supreme Court rules on Mitchell SloughBy Michael Howell On Monday, November 17, the Montana Supreme Court unanimously overturned portions of a District Court ruling and found that Mitchell Slough, a 16 mile long side channel of the Bitterroot River stretching from Corvallis to Stevensville, is subject to the state’s 310 Law and recreational use is permitted under the state’s Stream Access Law. Although reversing the lower court’s ruling on these issues, the Court did uphold Judge Ted Mizner’s ruling on two counts concerning the public process involved in the original determination of the slough’s status by the Bitterroot Conservation District. New Kootenai Creek Bridge openThe bridge crossing Kootenai Creek on Kootenai Creek Road northwest to of Stevensville was opened to public traffic on Thursday, October 16. The new bridge, a 70-foot-long pre-stressed modular concrete structure, replaces the old structure that was damaged in a high-water event on November 7, 2006. More... Clothes Closet looks for temporary abode at schoolBy Michael Howell The Clothes Closet, a non-profit organization, that collects clothing and offers it for free to people in need is looking to relocate, at least temporarily, on Stevensville School District grounds. The outfit has operated out of a dilapidated residence on Main Street in Stevensville but that structure is now slated for demolition. As a result the Clothes Closet Steering Committee has sent a request to the Stevensville School District to lease the Alternative Learning Center a building on the school grounds that is currently unoccupied.
