By Michael Howell

On Friday, October 17, following up on an investigation into a possible kidnapping and assault, Ravalli County Sheriff’s deputies found themselves engaged in an 18-hour long armed standoff with 36-year-old Bryce Everett Peterson, of 2440 Chief Victor Camp Road, in Victor. More...

"Nothing over $500 and no negotiating" is the marketing strategy of Cindy Kincheloe, manager of A Forever Home, a furniture store the proceeds of which benefit the Bitterroot Humane Shelter. Sheriff Chris Hoffman, who also serves as Coronor, said that investigators saw no immediate indications of foul play. More...

Local group found in violation of political practices law

Commissioner of Political Practices Dennis Unsworth has found that a political committee, called Ravalli County Citizens for Free Enterprise (RCCFE), formed in the Bitterroot to repeal the “Big Box” Resolution, was not guilty of violating the political practices law that it was accused of violating by local bookstore owner Russ Lawrence, but it was guilty of violating the reporting and maintenance provisions of Montana law. Higher Ground Foundation being scrutinized by Commissioner of Political Practices

By Michael Howell

Commissioner of Political Practices Dennis Unsworth wants more information from the local citizen’s group called the Higher Ground Foundation, before he accepts the group’s claim that it is an “incidental committee” and contributes to politics only in a small, incidental fashion with respect to its main business, which is education, and thus is not required to disclose its funding sources.
