The entire Sheep Creek episode has been shrouded in silence to the extent the public is forced to make decisions based on presumptions.
Two situations need attention. The first is that the subjects in the Bitterroot Valley will probably pay twice to bring an experiment to a conclusion. The proposal is that a given percentage of the value of all you have here will be taken to provide partial funding for a process that remains unproven at commercial levels. The funding realized will not be adequate for the entire operation so government grants will be applied for, and granted. The extent of any grant or the number of grants applied for is not public record.
For all practical purposes we are totally financing an experiment that is the doorway to disaster. We are financing our own demise.
The second situation is one of accountability or responsibility, call it what you may. The operating plan of United States Critical Materials (USCM) is subject to the approval of District Ranger Dan Pliley with final approval the responsibility of Bitterroot National Forest Supervisor Matt Anderson.
The allowed comment period has expired. The concerns of those who are, or would be, financing the experiment have not ended.
Despite the time limitations imposed for public comment it is only logical to continue to express our concerns to that individual designated to receive those comments: Bitterroot National Forest Supervisor Matt Anderson.
Being tasked with final approval it is only reasonable that it be done after meaningful consideration of the opinions of those who would pay the cost.
Express yourselves respectfully as residents as a one of a kind community. Display your concerns. This is probably your last chance.
