When I read the August 26 LTE by Richard Parker from Stevensville, I just could not let it go without responding. Where on this green earth are you getting your information about what Democrats believe? Almost everything you said was outright false. Yes, there is as diverse of views among Democrats as there is among Republicans. But I know a lot of Democrats and I don’t know one who is a communist, one who doesn’t’ think we should have immigration reform, one who is a militant, one who is antisemitic, one who thinks defunding the police is a good idea, one who even knows anything about ANTIFA, anyone who supports “super high” taxes (whatever that means), or someone who doesn’t think we should enforce our election laws.
If you would bother to get to know your Democratic neighbor and have a conversation about what kind of nation we want and how to govern, you would soon conclude that someone is feeding you a pack of lies. Why? I can only conclude the reason is to scare you so they can take advantage of you. Democrats believe in equal opportunity for all Americans; that includes economic justice, environmental justice, and treating your neighbors as you would have them treat you. What is so scary and alarming about that?

It’s like a news outlet calling the other party the Repugnacan Party. How would that sit with those who use schoolyard slurs to put down their neighbors?

Frank. Trump has increased his personal wealth by over two BILLION dollars since he re-took office in 2025. Diesel is over $6 a gallon. Grocery store prices have increased. Beef farmers are being undercut by Trump importing cheap “mystery meat”. We’re at war again. We’re in a tariff stand-off with our friends in Canada. And the Epstein files are still being suppressed and redacted.
Being upset about, and questioning those things, does not mean that a person (Dem, Rep or Independant) hates America. It means that we need to provide real checks to power, and since Republicans hold the White House, the Senate and Congress, they are the ones that need to be held accountable. Holding those in charge accountable does not mean that we hate America.
