The recent letter titled “Red Herring” raises questions worthy of public discussion. Unfortunately, it also contains a few red herrings of its own.
The Federal Tort Claims Act was not created to compensate victims of political persecution. It is a longstanding law allowing people to seek compensation for injury, death or property damage caused by wrongful acts of federal employees. Filing a claim does not mean the claimant will receive anything. A claim must be evaluated, supported and either settled or taken to court.
If January 6 defendants receive taxpayer money merely because they were pardoned or politically favored, citizens of every political persuasion should demand an explanation. A pardon does not prove that the original investigation or prosecution was wrongful.
The letter also confuses presidential compensation with private business income. Article II prevents a president’s official compensation from being increased or diminished during his term and prohibits additional emoluments from the federal government or the states. It does not prohibit all private income. President Trump’s reported business earnings may raise serious questions about conflicts of interest, but those questions should be examined under the proper constitutional and ethical standards.
Calling people “Slick Willie” and “Shoddy Toddy” does not strengthen an argument. It only adds more political noise at a time when we desperately need facts and civil discussion.
Finally, Dr. Fauci and Rocky Mountain Laboratories may deserve either praise or criticism based upon their own records, but neither has anything to do with Federal Tort Claims Act payments or presidential income. In a letter about red herrings, their sudden appearance seems to be another red herring.
Government must be accountable, regardless of which party controls it. But accountability begins with accurate facts, relevant arguments and enough respect to discuss our differences without resorting to insults.

AMEN – well said Bob – but it is clear from the comments here who do NOT do some research before opining.
