Roads or repairs

May 20, 2026 by Guest Post 1 Comment

by Carol Peterson, Corvallis

On the ballot for June 2 nd , we are asked to decide if we want to maintain the Ravalli County Roads. It will cost most of us less than $100.00. Taxes is a way in which everyone shares the load to improve our community. If we all pay something thing than nobody has to pay a lot. Our neighbors who have built large houses pay more than those that live in small houses. We live in an area where there are frost heaves, wash outs, vehicles with chains and snow tires, that add to the maintenance of the roads. If we choose not to repair the frost heaves, and wash outs than we will spend more on vehicle maintenance. As a garage owner I know that $100.00 a year does not go far when repairing steering and suspension on a vehicle. Please vote FOR the mill levy.

I talked to a man who builds highways and he said that he could maintain the roads in the valley for around a million a year. not the current Million a MILE. He cited many ways that our county commissioners could provide good roads if they ONLY had the WILL TO DO SO! Will you join me in asking the county commissioners to have a public meeting and allow this man to address us all and prove his statements BEFORE we tax ourselves more money.

One way he gave is the expensive equipment that is used to chew up asphalt and to save money, when it is done for the day is to leave the machine here in the valley rather than transport it an HOUR away to a garage and then bring it back wasting another hour the next day. He said you can just park the machine and save the hour going and coming each day or about ten hours a week. That money spent on salary and wear and tear on the machine can be used to improve our roads. If you agree call the county commisionrs and ask for thispublic meeting. Let’s start doing our job as “bosses” of the government we elect.
