I saw a short interview with the political historian Heather Cox Richardson and President Biden this morning (HCR/Biden interview on youtube), and since November may ask us to choose between these two men for president, I’ll share my perspective.
Yes, Mr. Biden is an old man at 81, but so are so many of our legislators and it’s time for that to change. But Mr. Trump is only 3 years younger though he tries to hide it, and if you listen to them talk, the former is thoughtful, knowledgeable, and to-the-point while the latter is long-winded and always says the same things. It’s hard to know whether he knows anything about presidential responsibility, the real state of the economy and our southern border, or what has made this country different and important in the world since its beginning. If he doesn’t, well, why would anyone want to vote for him?
Because he wants to shake things up and “drain the swamp,” as he said in 2016. He certainly has shaken things up, and I think that’s a good thing. But what does he want in place of what we’ve had? His rules, his laws, his cronies, his revenge, his dictatorship. I think he is, in fact, a swamp creature at heart.
Mr. Biden is guided by the Rule of Law – laws which we as a nation have chosen over the years through our elected representatives.
In the interview President Biden said he thinks a general characteristic of Americans is that we don’t want to be told what to do. If you think the government is doing that now, just try a dictatorship.
