I write in response to the letters that appeared in the July 24, 2019 Bitterroot Star sparked by Dee Gibney’s letter. These letters, apparently aimed not only at Ms. Gibney, but also the current immigration crisis on our southern border, evoke everything from people escaping Nazi persecutions, to the prejudices suffered by most all immigrants who have had an accent different from the neighborhood norm, to images of our Savior Jesus Christ suffering at the hands of his own people, to espousing fear of blood in the streets. I must ask a couple of serious questions to all those who seem to have accepted the deception that our current immigration crisis is new and caused by the current administration: Where have your facts come from? And: What is your “vision” of what America should be?
Our nation is, and always has been, a nation of laws. Today, our laws are being ignored, defied, obfuscated, and perverted by rouge cities, local governments and activist judges. Our founders warned us about many of the issues we face today. In fact, the perversion of the language itself was identified as such a threat. So much so that Webster was compelled to write his renowned dictionary to help prevent it (though try to find a non-revised version of his works. This will confirm the tenacity of those who oppose us.). Laws are to be clear, undeniable, and enforced. The current laws governing our immigration policy were inherited by the current administration. A fact most opposing said administration conveniently forget. What has changed under this administration is the sponsored influx of immigrants in an obvious attempt to overwhelm the system. Well that, and the unprecedented opposition to our president on all fronts, and a determined refusal to help the victims of this macabre charade by those responsible for it. Politics over patriotism.
As a point of reference, I am fourth generation American on one side and eleventh generation on the other. I could reach back into my relations’ pasts to draw out hurts, abuses, and prejudices suffered by my heritage but that is not what makes me an American. What makes me an American is that ALL my forefathers (and mothers) were willing to pay the price, no matter how high, to become Americans and secure their heritage, handing those values down. It made no difference that a son and brother had to be left behind at the northern border due to health concerns, nor that the most powerful military in the world was persecuting all who had like beliefs. They looked to the goal of being Americans, buckled down and did what was necessary to make that dream come true. They did not wallow in self pity or blame others for their problems. They suffered. They persevered. They would not have dreamed of seeking government assistance even if such a thing had existed, nor would they have expected the population they hoped to join to support them. They seem to have understood what it meant to be an American much better than many of those who claim that mantle today. I stand on a foundation that no man can shake, and though I seem to be in a shrinking minority (according to the left’s controlled media, but I know better), I still have respect for facts and believe in absolutes, read: absolute truths.
A few absolute truths to consider, facts that have guided humanity since our creation and up until now have not been disproved. It takes a man and a woman to prosper mankind, it is the natural state. Life is precious, at ALL stages. To forcibly take from one whom earned it to give to one who refuses to earn is theft. The U.S. capitalist system is the number one engine for creating prosperity in all aspects of life for the common man in the history of the world. Borders not only establish, but also protect a country. To relax our borders or the laws and standards established to become an American threatens our security and our ability to prosper others. The United States is the only nation in the history of the world to be founded under God and not under man. (Israel was founded BY God). From non-existence to the number one financial and military power in the world in less than two generations!
Now tell me again how we are not exceptional! Tell me again how this country is not worth protecting from “all enemies foreign and domestic.” Tell me again about your justification to allow people into our country who trash our flag, despise our culture, disrespect our laws and have no desire to become Americans but wish to turn US into what they ran away from. Explain to me one more time, how democratic control with mob rule and top down agendas is so much better for the common man than the Republic our founding fathers granted us to be ruled “By The People For The People”. I point to the “sanctuary cities” that so well exemplify our future should we continue down this path.
I must agree with a point made by Mr. Oppenheim in his guest comment when he stated “There will be blood”. In fact, the seepage is already evident. Just look in the streets: Chicago where many weekends more Americans die and are wounded than are in the same time frame in our current war. Los Angeles where Bubonic Plague has been discovered in the streets and a new epidemic is feared. San Francisco where human excrement is literally mapped out by the city to warn those not use to such things to avoid the area and reports are the stench in one or our most prominent cities is worse than the slums of Mumbai. Seattle where you dare not venture alone in many areas because the “homeless” drug addicts outnumber the working citizenry. Those in charge claim this is all done in the name of “compassion.” And in none of these cities are you allowed your 2nd amendment right to protect yourself. In fact, please look at virtually any major Democrat controlled city in the U.S. You will quickly understand why people are fleeing in droves. If people can do this with an honest heart, you may understand why so many of us who treasure our heritage and the sacrifices made to secure it, are repulsed when those same people flee to places we cherish and immediately try to turn it into what they ran away from.
Referring to the previous Guest Comment once more, “Our huddled masses: E Pluribus unum, one from many.” This was accomplished by those that came before us through indescribable pressure. To create one alloy, whether material, physical or spiritual, or combination of these, forging of some kind is required. To bring many differing elements into one contiguous functioning item, pressure and heat is usually required. The difference between inert elements and people is that people must be in agreement of the ultimate goal. This was obviously the case for Americans in many varied instances in the past. Yet today, I do not see a semblance of the coherence or commitment needed to form this bond among many of our citizens. It appears that “feelings” today hold more weight than weighted facts. I do believe that the elements for forging an inseparable bond is coming. To continue our Union and secure our heritage, pressure and heat will surely be brought to bear. I pray we stop short of “there will be blood.”
