By Carolyn Cook, Election Judge, Stevensville
With all the negativity and animosity that surrounded the campaign, I was not looking forward to working as an election judge at the Stevensville Polling Place. I was pleasantly surprised at the congenial atmosphere that pervaded the polls. Friends were greeting friends they hadn’t seen for some time with hugs and handshakes. You didn’t see anyone yelling in someone’s face. People came to cast their ballots and go on with everyday life. I give a lot of credit to the Chief Election Judges who helped create a positive environment and who did everything they could to make sure everyone got to vote. People of all ages and walks of life came to vote and it was great for first time voters to see the comradery between people regardless of their political beliefs.
Hopefully, the officials that were elected will come together and work for what is best for our country and not the political parties. America IS great and we need to work together to keep it that way.
To end on a sweet note (no pun intended) the Stevensville Teachers Association served treats after school in the foyer of the gym thanking people for voting. How great was that!
