Stevensville treasurer Roxanne Wagner resigned unexpectedly last Wednesday, walking off the job at noon after submitting a short letter of resignation, which stated briefly, “I apologize for not being able to provide two week’s notice. I regret that, due to circumstances beyond my control, I need to resign immediately.” She concluded the letter to Mayor Jim Crews by stating, “Thank so much for the support that you have provided me during my time with the town. I greatly appreciate your guidance.” Wagner could not be reached for comment.
Mayor Crews said on Monday that he had just returned from an exit interview with Wagner about her reasons for quitting and could not discuss anything about it since it was a personnel issue. He confirmed that the resignation was received and that former treasurer April Van Tassel was already serving as interim treasurer until a permanent replacement could be found. He said the process of advertising for a new treasurer had already begun.
