We would like to thank everyone who responded to the barn fire on Easy Street last Tuesday night. The lady who saw the fire and knocked on our door to alert us. EMTs and Volunteer Fire Departments (VFD), you are our heroes! Your quick response, trained cooperation, and your kindness to us, made all the difference. The barn is lost, but you fully protected our homes. And accomplished that with quiet determination, and no sirens as you approached. Our 10-month-old baby slept through the ordeal. Sincere thanks from the Wehr family at 3609 A Easy Street.
Babies or youngsters in each of three houses on Easy Street, when on August 9 about 9:30 p.m., a huge explosion happened on the north end of the 30’ by 60’ barn with the green roof over it and attached 60’ by 25’ equipment shed. Lightning blew out the taller, thicker fork of a tree 75 feet from the barn, igniting 1” by 6” wood siding dry since around 1920. Flames were advancing toward the 5’ by 6’ hay hole when the emergency call was completed to 9-1-1. Seemed like within minutes Fire Command, then EMT arrived. Flames started shooting up the cupola on north end of barn. Just like they had drilled for it, VFD units pulled in to shield houses from heat, then immediately laid out hoses and attacked different sectors of perimeter of base of expanding fire. The ladder truck pulled into a slot opposite the center of fire. There might have been seven engines pumping water. Four water tankers started shuttling for refills of 2,500 to 3,000 gallons. High praise for Volunteer Fire Departments’ excellence! Sincere thanks from Bob Williams at 3609 B Easy Street
On behalf of the Marsh family at 3611 Easy Street, we want to thank all the men and women who were so quick to respond, and worked so hard to keep our family, home and neighbors safe. The next morning the air was good to breathe. Charred lumber and metal was bunched up and cold.
I would like to thank all the firefighters and first responders when the big, tall barn caught fire. The way you positioned trucks in line in front of the houses is very much appreciated! Keeping my asphalt shingles cool and wet for hours is very much appreciated! Thank you, Volunteer Fire Departments, for your diligent work Tuesday night and three hours Wednesday morning. Sally Lannier, in white house, on north end of Easy Street, opposite the barn.
