As Founders Day approaches, the celebration of Stevensville’s 175th Anniversary, the committee in charge of making preparations for the event is doing what it can to encourage the downtown business and home owners to spruce things up a bit and make as good an impression as possible on the throngs of out-of-towners expected to attend.
As part of that effort, a letter was sent to CenturyLink, asking if the company would consider allowing the Design Committee of the Stevensville Main Street Association to pitch in and turn the old chain link fence on CenturyLink’s property at 4th and Main into a work of art.
According to Cinda Holt, chair of the Main Street Association’s Design Committee, CenturyLink has agreed to spend up to $6,100 on the project. The committee is coming up with a design which, once approved by the company, they will also install.
Right now, according to Holt, the plan involves enlisting a local artist to use colored slats that will be woven into the chain link fencing, creating a mural look. They would use CenturyLink’s color scheme of green/blue/brown to create a pattern suggesting trees, sky and mountains by cutting the slats to different lengths and installing them horizontally and diagonally along the fence.
