The last four years have proven to be a major challenge for Ravalli County. The election of three new Commissioners with new ideas and a different perspective of the role of Commissioners has resulted in poor decisions that caused a near shut down of the Treasurer’s office. This caused untold difficulties for all of the departments and schools who rely on timely receipt of taxes that are collected and distributed by the Treasurer’s Office.
Ravalli County needs and deserves a Commission that understands the process, respects the institution, but above all knows how to read and create a budget.
Ray Hawk is a former banker, small businessman and Montana State Legislator. As a member and sub-committee chairman of the Appropriations Committee, he knows the budgeting process and the need for understanding possible unintended consequences.

Ravalli County has tried the experiment of ideology driven commissioners. It didn’t work. We must have Commissioners who work for the county and who understand and respect the process.
