Dear Editor,
Last year I attended all the Lady Yellowjackets varsity basketball games at home and at divisionals in Hamilton. They were an exciting team to watch play, even beating two double A schools from Missoula. They averaged over 40 points per game, outscoring their opponents by over 100 points for the season.
This season’s team should be a strong contender for the state title, with four returning starters from last season, including to outstanding players in Alycia Sims and Bailey Vercruyssen. Sims is the most dominant player in the division; she is unstoppable in the paint and she is the most prolific scorer in the division. Vercruyssen is a speedster with magical ball handling skills, who can put ankle breaking moves on defensive players.
Stevensville has all the tools and talent to be State Champions. Their only possible weakness may be in their transitional game, but by utilizing their speed, the fast break on takeaways can yield a lot of points for them.
Go, Lady Yellowjackets! Believe in yourselves and you can become State Champions!
