She was 21 seconds ahead of Big Sky's Kim Tritz, the second place finisher. A total of 76 girls competed in the Corvallis Invitational which was held at the Teller Wildlife Refuge. The win was the second of the season for Allred who also won the Pattee Canyon meet in Missoula on opening weekend. Allred said she and the Corvallis team had only run on the Teller course once this year. Corvallis practiced there on Thursday. Allred's time for the race was 18:35. "I like to run here," she said. "It's prettier than most places we run. But sometimes it's not as fun, when you get bugs in your mouth." The Corvallis girls finished in fourth place behind Missoula Hellgate, Big Sky and Sentinel. Hamilton finished in sixth place. Jordan Gurgiolo of Hamilton finished in fifth place with a time of 19:52. Shoshannah Seed of Corvallis was 13th with a time of 21:24. Football Arlee tops Darby The Arlee Warriors proved to be too much for the Darby Tigers and spoiled the Tigers' homecoming in a hard fought game. Arlee defeated Darby 30-13 in a Class B non-conference game. Arlee scored first when Dillon Garrison caught a 25-yard pass from Boyd Whetzel. Whetzel then hit Craig Tanner from his own 9-yard line for a 91 yard touchdown pass and reception with just 20 seconds remaining in the half. Darby came out of the locker room motivated and moved the ball well in their first drive of the third quarter. Zack Rogala took the ball 11 yards in to the end zone for the first Tiger score. The run failed and the Tigers were only behind by 8. Arlee scored again when Tanner was once more the recipient of a Whetzel pass, this time from six yards out. Darby came back and scored once again in the fourth quarter. Scott Conner carried the ball in from eight yards out. R.J. Higgins kicked the PAT. Rogala carried the ball 25 times for 103 yards. It was the first loss for the Tigers. Northern teams top valley's teams It was a battle of the undefeated powers-that-be in Whitefish on Friday night when Stevensville, ranked No. 2 in the state, took on No. 4 ranked Whitefish. When the dust had settled, Whitefish was on top, 14-10. Stevensville, with Tyson Johnson leading the way, scored first when the talented senior kicked a field goal from 23 yards out. Whitefish's game plan was to keep control of the ball and therefore the clock. The Bulldogs scored when Jolly Righetti plunged two yards for the touchdown. Andrew Bruce kicked the PAT. Whitefish scored again in the second quarter when Mike Watson carried the ball five yards for the TD. Bruce again kicked the PAT. A five yard keeper by Johnson put another six points on the scoreboard for Stevensville. His PAT was good but that would be the last score of the game. Johnson threw for 264 yards and had 56 yards rushing himself. He completed 17 of 31 passes with two interceptions. With the loss, the Yellowjackets fell to 2-1. Conference play begins this weekend with Stevensville hosting Corvallis for Homecoming. Corvallis also made the trip north where they took on Columbia Falls. Corvallis finally got on the board in the fourth quarter with little more than three minutes remaining when David Minnis caught a 51 yard pass from junior quarterback Joe Nisly. Minis also kicked the PAT. Hamilton was in the north country as well, taking on Libby. The young Broncs were looking for their first win of the season but it was not to be as the Loggers defeated Hamilton 24-12. Libby scored first when Pete Jacobson caught a 20 yard pass from Vance Vincent. The PAT by Axel Wathne was good. Wathne then kicked a 28 yard field goal. Libby's Josh Erickson ran 27 yards in the third quarter for another six points. He added a yard and ran 28 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Wathne kicked both PATs. Hamilton's only scores were in the second quarter. Quarterback Kevin McCowen hit Jesse Barns from seven yards out for the first Bronc touchdown. Bryan Hansen then took the ball in from four yards out for the second touchdown. Both conversions failed. Hamilton is now 0-3. The north country was not good for Florence or Victor either. Florence traveled to Thompson Falls for a non-conference Class B match. Florence scored first when Riky Wallace caught a 17 yard pass from Doug Ward. In the second quarter, Falcon Ben Bessette plunged one yard for another touchdown. Clint Padgett kicked both PATs. But that would be the last time the maroon and gold team crossed the goal line. Tony Kazmierczak scored the final Blue Hawk touchdown. Florence is now 1-2. Victor journeyed to Charlo for a rematch of last year's first-round playoff game. Although not quite as drastic as last year, the Pirates were defeated, 20-10. Cory Cromwell plunged two yards for the lone Pirate touch down. The Pirate defense also had a safety. Volleyball Florence drops Darby The Florence Falcon volleyball team defeated Darby in three games Thursday night. Led by Natalie Slingsby, Destinie Dahlseid and Sara Sullivan, the Falcons consistently blocked shots and made the kill. Dahlseid had nine kills in the match. Slingsby had 21 digs. "We were off to a rough start," said Florence coach Jamie Feland. "We play well at times and then are inconsistent. But we played hard and put the points away tonight." Feland went on to say he was especially pleased with Kaci Gaub's performance. "This is the best she's played so far this year. We got some key blocks from her as well as a couple of kills. It's the kind of game we expect all of us to have." Gaub finished with three blocks. Corvallis lost to Dillon in four games on Friday. After dropping the first two games, Corvallis rallied back to win the third 20-25. Dillon came back to win the fourth game and take the match.
