Zoning deadlines suspended

By Michael Howell

At a marathon meeting last week the County Commissioners decided to scrap any deadlines for the ongoing countywide zoning project. The original plan called for a complete set of regulations and maps to be produced and adopted by November 8, 2008 when the emergency Interim Zoning is set to expire. But officials from the Planning Department, the County Clerk and Recorder and the County Attorney’s office all claimed that the deadline is impracticable and probably unachievable. Lange Park, complete with bronze sculpture, new bench, picnic table, and trash container, will be dedicated at the Stevensville Garden Party on Wednesday, July 30. Members of the Lange and Sullivan families are scheduled to attend. Music will begin at 6p.m., followed by the dedication at 6:30 and the recognition of the community's award winners at 7p.m. The Garden Party is the annual kick-off to the Creamery Picnic which takes place the first full weekend in August, in this case August 1 and 2. The park is located just north of Towle House Realty on Main Street in downtown Stevensville. Jean Schurman photo.

County sticks to limits on family transfers

By Michael Howell

County subdivision regulations allow the transfer of land to immediate family members without going through the more arduous and more expensive subdivision review process. It is called a “family transfer.” The law does not allow for the re-sale of the land to a third party after the family transfer without subdivision review, however. More...
