Zoning deadlines suspendedBy Michael Howell At a marathon meeting last week the County Commissioners decided to scrap any deadlines for the ongoing countywide zoning project. The original plan called for a complete set of regulations and maps to be produced and adopted by November 8, 2008 when the emergency Interim Zoning is set to expire. But officials from the Planning Department, the County Clerk and Recorder and the County Attorney’s office all claimed that the deadline is impracticable and probably unachievable. In the end the commissioners agreed. But not before they bedazzled onlookers by struggling through five separate failed motions before finally passing one to address the problem. More...  Lange Park, complete with bronze sculpture, new bench, picnic table, and trash container, will be dedicated at the Stevensville Garden Party on Wednesday, July 30. Members of the Lange and Sullivan families are scheduled to attend. Music will begin at 6p.m., followed by the dedication at 6:30 and the recognition of the community's award winners at 7p.m. The Garden Party is the annual kick-off to the Creamery Picnic which takes place the first full weekend in August, in this case August 1 and 2. Petition signatures submittedBy Michael Howell According to County Clerk and Recorder Regina Plettenberg, her office has received a petition to repeal the County’s Growth Policy with about 4,000 signatures. If 3,567 of these signatures can be verified it will be enough to place the issue on the November 2008 ballot. More... Lawsuit filed over Lost Horse Quarry workBy Michael Howell The Lost Horse Canyon Coalition and Rick Torre have filed an injunction in Federal Court to stop implementation of a permit issued by the U.S. Forest Service to Ravalli County to mine the Lost Horse Creek Quarry. The Forest Service has agreed to delay implementation of the project while the request for a declaratory judgment and an injunction is briefed and considered by the court. More... County sticks to limits on family transfersBy Michael Howell County subdivision regulations allow the transfer of land to immediate family members without going through the more arduous and more expensive subdivision review process. It is called a “family transfer.” The law does not allow for the re-sale of the land to a third party after the family transfer without subdivision review, however. More... County to join Tri-State Water Quality CouncilCommissioners gave Ravalli County Environmental Health Director Lea Jordan the go ahead last week to join the Tri-State Water Quality Council (TWQC). Jordan met with the director of the TWQC last week and discussed issues of concern regarding septic system policies, and a proposed multi-county project to address changes to septic system policies and regulations.
