And no one was hurt - A wooden awning that stretched across the front of two buildings in downtown Stevensville housing the High Country Bar and the Full Moon Saloon came loose from its moorings on Monday evening, crashing down onto the sidewalk below. The tip of one side was held up by the corner of an awning on an adjacent building, perhaps averting more serious damage. Jean Schurman photo.

A major accident slowed traffic on the Eastside Highway between Corvallis and Stevensville on Monday. The wreck involved a truck carrying three people, a large semi-truck hauling junk metal for Pacific Recycling, and a mowing machine that was cutting grass on the roadside.

State Highway Patrolman Chris Hamilton said that the two trucks were headed north on the Eastside Highway when the white pick-up hit the mowing machine that was working on the side of the road. The semi-truck then swerved, dumping a portion of its load into and along the road. The pick-up truck appeared to be totaled with the front end crushed. The occupants were treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released, he said. The driver of the mower was also slightly injured. He too was treated at the hospital and released, according to Hamilton. "It's just a blessing that no one was killed," he said. Stephanie Shelton photo.
