County planning director resignsBy Michael Howell Ravalli County Planning Director Karen Hughes tendered her resignation last Thursday. She plans to continue working for the county through July 11, but then it’s off to the Missoula County Planning Department to work there in the Rural Initiatives Program. More... State Highway Patrolman Chris Hamilton said that the two trucks were headed north on the Eastside Highway when the white pick-up hit the mowing machine that was working on the side of the road. The semi-truck then swerved, dumping a portion of its load into and along the road. The pick-up truck appeared to be totaled with the front end crushed. The occupants were treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released, he said. The driver of the mower was also slightly injured. He too was treated at the hospital and released, according to Hamilton. "It's just a blessing that no one was killed," he said. Stephanie Shelton photo. Hamilton seeking input on growth policyBy Greg Lemon Over the next few months the city of Hamilton will be looking back over its growth policy, asking citizens and interest groups for input on any changes that the document needs. Hamilton has contracted with Applied Communications out of Whitefish to work on the growth policy update. The first meetings to gather public input will begin Wednesday. More... By Michael Howell The Ravalli County Streamside Setback Committee has released a draft version of its proposed Streamside Protection Regulation (SPR) for public review and comment. The committee was charged by the County Commissioners when it was formed in 2007 to come up with some sort of recommendation for streamside regulations by mid-summer 2008, but that deadline was recently extended to October 1, 2008. A major accident slowed traffic on the Eastside Highway between Corvallis and Stevensville on Monday. The wreck involved a truck carrying three people, a large semi-truck hauling junk metal for Pacific Recycling, and a mowing machine that was cutting grass on the roadside.
