County considering formation of Water Quality DistrictBy Michael Howell Ravalli County officials are interested in establishing a local Water Quality District to protect, preserve, and improve the quality of local groundwater and surface water resources. Director of the county's Environmental Health Department, Theresa Blazicevich, is currently hosting informational meetings throughout the county to discuss with citizens the potential benefits of establishing a Water Quality District. Petition to repeal "Big Box" ordinance submittedCounty questions constitutionality of suspending ordinance By Michael Howell Citizens for Economic Opportunity (CEO), a group headed by Stevensville area activist Dallas Erickson, has turned in over 6,500 signatures on a petition designed to overturn an Ordinance, passed unanimously by County Commissioners on April 12, that would restrict the size of retail developments in the county to 60,000 square feet and regulate the design and landscaping on establishments between 25,000 and 60,000 square feet. The group only needs 4,327 signatures to place the issue on the November ballot. But if the required number of signatures was submitted by June 12, as these were, then the Ordinance is also suspended until the public vote. As of Monday, the Ravalli County Clerk and Recorder's office had still not finished validating the signatures, as required by law. More... The structure sits where the Ag Building was at the Fairgrounds. It is billed as a year round multi-use facility with the fair exhibits being just a small part of the usage of this building. More... County gets grant to train workers at GlaxoSmithKlineBy Michael Howell The Ravalli County Economic Development Authority (RCEDA) announced last week that Ravalli County will be receiving $400,000 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds to train employees to work at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a pharmaceutical research firm located in Hamilton, formerly called Corixa. According to Managing Director, Julie Foster, the RCEDA was instrumental in applying for the grant and will also help administer it. More... |
