River claims a lifeThe Bitterroot River is notorious for its hazards during flood time. That’s why professional fishing guide and floater David Dedmon was out on the river on Sunday June 15, according to Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman. He was with his wife, Sharon, “sweeping” the river for hazards prior to taking some clients scheduled for later in the week. And that’s how 53-year-old Dedmon, an experienced outfitter and former County Peace Officer, lost his life. More... A gardener’s nightmareBy Michael Howell Patti Jo Thomas and her friend Jay Seppel are still in shock and so are their gardens. The two have worked hard over the years to maintain their prolific organic gardens located on land east of Stevensville. This spring, after preparing the soil to plant everything from fruit trees, to flowers, to vegetables in their gardens, the two assiduously applied the magic component, “homemade” fertilizer produced by their two donkeys over the course of the winter. Not too long after the manure was applied, however, the devastating results slowly unfurled. Or, more exactly, failed to unfurl. Some plants shriveled up and died. There were parades, there was music and dancing, and there was...Huey Lewis in Stevensville! The Bitterroot was a happening place on Saturday, with numerous events including art shows, festivals and more. But the climax had to be the much-anticipated appearance by world-famous pop singer Huey Lewis, who now lives in Stevensville, at the Downtown Saturday Night event during Stevensville Western Heritage Days. Lewis sang and played the harmonica with the Joan Zen band before an adoring crowd of about 2,800 on Third Street in front of the Stevensville Hotel.
