Habitat for Humanity plans two homes in HamiltonBy Michael Howell Ravalli County Habitat for Humanity has plans to build two new homes on adjacent lots at the corner of N. 7th St. and Cherry St. in Hamilton. The lots were purchased last December and in February a variance was granted to allow the organization to redraw the existing lot lines so that two homes could be built on the property both facing onto Cherry Street. Tea Party II - A second non-partisan tax protest rally on May 1 drew more than 500 people to the First Interstate Center in Hamilton. Hamilton passes ordinance prohibiting open burningBy Michael Howell Although it has been City policy for some time not to allow open burning within the city limits, the Hamilton City Council cemented those restrictions by ordinance at its April 21 meeting. The new ordinance was first approved following a public hearing and first reading on April 7. It prohibits any open burning within the city limits except for barbeques and recreational fires. More... Proposed building remodel in hands of Stevi Civic ClubBy Michael Howell The Stevensville Town Council heard a proposal from the owner of the Olde Coffee Mill, Ginny Horning, to remodel the façade of her Main Street establishment and create a side door that would open out onto the Creamery Garden Park, a small downtown park that is owned by the Town but managed by the Stevensville Civic Club. The Council seemed agreeable, but decided to delay any action on the matter until it could be presented to the Civic Club for its approval first. More... Another Mitchell Slough?By Michael Howell The Bitterroot Conservation District held a public hearing last week at the American Legion Hall east of Stevensville to take public comment on the petition by area landowners to remove a supposed stream from protection under the state’s 310 Law because it is really a ditch. The District has historically issued 310 Permits for work in or on the banks of the stream called Spring Creek or Little Creek, believing that it was a perennially flowing branch of North Burnt Fork Creek. Corvallis Events Center dedicatedBy Jean Schurman Saturday morning, student athletes at the Corvallis Invitational Track Meet saw and heard first-hand that small town athletes can make it big in the world. Corvallis native and 1974 graduate, Lorna Griffin, spoke at the dedication of the Corvallis Community Events Center Saturday morning and spoke of her career as a two-time Olympian and how she had her start at Corvallis High School.
