Huls Dairy garners national recognitionBy Michael Howell Huls Dairy of Corvallis was selected as one of only 75 Blue Ribbon Small Business Award winners from across the nation, and the only one from Montana, as part of the competition for the national U.S. Chamber of Commerce Dream Big Award. The local dairy was recommended to be placed in nomination for the award by the Agriculture Committee of the Bitterroot Valley Chamber of Commerce. Hamilton School District proposes two leviesBy Michael Howell At its March 8 meeting, the Hamilton School Board of Trustees decided unanimously to put a pair of bonds before the voters in the school elections on May 4, 2010. One would be a $1 million Building Reserve levy spread over five years at $200,000 per year. The other would be a $235,000 annual Technology Acquisition and Depreciation Fund Levy to fund upkeep of the schools computer hardware, update of software, and other computer related expenses. More... Pooling effortsBy Victoria Howell The Stevensville Community Foundation (SCF) has dived in to help the Town of Stevensville keep its swimming pool open this year. A budget shortfall had put the pool in jeopardy and, although citizens have been trying to raise enough money to keep the pool open, its future remained uncertain until the Foundation took on the project. Now it is almost certain that the pool will be open for the 2010 season. More... Scrap Drive to benefit poolAfter a year off in 2009, the Stevensville Community Foundation will resume its annual Spring Scrap Drive in the months of April and May. But unlike former drives, the funds derived will not be applied to the foundation's grant cycles, but will be entirely devoted to refurbishing the community swimming pool in Lewis and Clark park in Stevensville. A new public swimming pool code had put the future use of the pool in doubt, but the foundation has been working with the state parks commission in Helena and obstacles have been cleared away.
