Victor handweaver recognized by Montana Arts CouncilBy Michael Howell It was announced in November that Deb Essen, a local handweaver from Victor, will be inducted into the Montana Circle of American Masters (MCAM) for Traditional and Folk Art. The date for the induction ceremony, which will be held in the Capitol Rotunda in Helena, has not yet been set. Essen was one of seven traditional and folk artists in the county to complete the Montana Arts Councils Montana Artrepreneurs Program in 2010. She was nominated for selection to the MCAM by Kristine Komar of the Bitter Root Cultural Heritage Trust. More... Hamilton extends union contractBy Michael Howell At its December 21 meeting, the Hamilton City Council authorized the Mayor to sign an agreement with Laborers Union Local #1618, extending the current contract with the union to June 30, 2011. The motion to extend the contract was amended to include the condition that the Mayor will not sign the agreement until the Union has accepted the agreement and withdrawn its complaint before the Labor Board of Appeals alleging unfair labor practices by the City. Special Projects Director Dennis Stranger told the council that the citys negotiating team had worked out the proposed agreement at a meeting on December 16, but that it would still require approval by the union members as well as the council.
