Bison on the Burnt Fork By Michael Howell  "Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam..." Chris Mack, a neurosurgeon from Missoula, is about as close to realizing this dream as a man can get these days in the Bitterroot Valley. Only one small technicality holds him back. Instead of buffalo roaming around his home he has a herd of bison. Technically, buffalo are a beast native to Asia. It is bison that are native to North America. Bison ranchers here in North America seem to be sensitive to this issue and want to be technically correct. Who can blame them? After all, it's their business. More... |

Stevi mayor wants investigation into allegations of misconduct By Michael Howell Stevensville Mayor Pat Groninger called an emergency meeting last Friday for the "authorization of the investigation into the allegations of Mayoral misconduct and sexual harassment." The meeting was hastily scheduled and given 48-hour public notice after a newspaper article appeared quoting several allegations made by Councilwoman Jake Weitzel in a letter to County Attorney George Corn. Council members Weitzel and Tom Brown did not show up and Friday's meeting was canceled due to lack of a quorum. More... |

Victor school fund drive raises first $500,000 By Jean Schurman Half a million dollars seemed unattainable just a few months ago. But now, after tallying the totals, the Victor School Foundation is one-quarter of the way to a new Arts and Science Complex, thanks to the outpouring of the Victor community. Stevi mom accused of poisoning her children By Michael Howell Following a lengthy investigation by Stevensville Police and the Montana State Department of Criminal Investigations, Stevensville resident Catherine McKay has been accused of poisoning one of her children and trying to poison another. Four felony counts have been filed against McKay in Ravalli County District Court, one count each of fraudulently obtaining dangerous drugs, aggravated assault, attempted aggravated assault, and criminal endangerment.
