Citizen group offers alternative to airport expansionBy Michael Howell The group, Informed Citizens Against Airport Runway Expansion (ICAARE), has been around a long time. It was formed back when plans for expansion at the airport were first discussed publicly. Its organization and the individuals primarily involved have changed some over the years. One of its prime initiators, Gwen Haas, for example, is now deceased. But the group itself has continued on and matured, according to ICAARE spokesperson Mike Jorgensen. More... Commissioners adopt impact fee ordinanceBy Michael Howell The County Commissioners gave final approval to an Impact Fee Ordinance last week on a 4 to 1 vote. The ordinance establishes the process by which any authorized district in the county, such as a school district, fire district, or sewer district, can apply for an impact fee to be set and assessed on new development within the district. Two die on St. Marys PeakThe following information is from a press release issued by the Ravalli County Sheriffs Office following a double fatality which occurred on St. Marys Peak west of Stevensville on Saturday, December 6. Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman has identified two people killed in a hiking accident on St. Marys Peak west of Stevensville, as 29-year-old Steven Maxwell Haldeman and 42-year-old Lisa Renee Jones. Care for highway amenities a looming dilemmaBy Michael Howell The County Commissioners recently amended a few contracts that it holds with the Montana Department of Transportation (MDOT) concerning responsibilities for the highway amenities associated with the states Highway 93 widening project. In particular all the contracts were amended to reflect that MDOT has responsibility for repairing and maintaining the asphalt bike and walk path and sidewalks along the roadway. More... Hamilton creates dog run parkBy Michael Howell The Hamilton City Council unanimously approved funding to create a dog run park on two acres of land located by the city sewer plant.
