Commissioners lend an ear to controversy over Victor parks fundingBy Michael Howell Ravalli County Commissioners got an earful about funding and management of Victor parks on Monday, but, without any authority over the matter, commissioners could only urge both sides of the controversy to get together and work something out for the benefit of the whole community. In a tense and emotion-filled encounter, the Victor Youth Athletic Association and the Victor Park District Board aired their differences in a tit for tat, point, counter-point and counter-counter-point fashion before the County Commissioners. Stevi School Board denies grievance and dismisses complaintBy Michael Howell On November 6, at a special meeting of the Stevensville School Board of Trustees, the Trustees considered a Level 3 Grievance and a separate complaint both filed by Stevensville High School English teacher James Wood. The first was a grievance by Wood relating to the placement of a letter of reprimand in his personnel file. The second was a complaint by Wood against High School Principal Jim Notaro for showing favoritism to a student by announcing "happy birthday" to the student over the school intercom system. The trustees voted unanimously to deny the grievance and, later, to dismiss the complaint. More... Valley air quality a growing concernBy Michael Howell Ravalli County Health Board members were reminded by county health officials at their last meeting that the county has already been warned about not meeting federal air quality standards and the process of designating Ravalli County an official "non-attainment area" will probably be completed next month. The county will have a chance to determine its own plan to bring the county into compliance if it moves quickly, or the federal government will impose a plan of its own. More... Neighbors graveled over proposed pitBy Michael Howell JTL Group Inc. of Missoula, Montana has applied for a Mined Land Reclamation Permit to mine and process gravel from a 36.7-acre site located approximately 2.4 miles north of Lolo. The site is bounded by US Highway 93 on the east, Bird Lane on the north, and Valley Grove Drive on the south. At full operation the project would include a wash plant, asphalt plant, pug mill, concrete plant, crusher and screening facilities, product stockpiles, and buildings. More... |

Mother Nature's newly created winter wonderland is beautiful to look at, but ice floes are beginning to appear and may do damage to the various roads and bridges around the county. This ice jam is located on Red Crow Road west of Victor Jean Schurman photo.
