Deadline extended for draft Streamside Protection Regulations

At a meeting last week the County Commissioners agreed to a request from the Streamside Setback Committee (SCC) to extend the deadline for submitting a draft of the proposed regulations from October 1 to October 31, 2008. More...




Discovery Care Center took first place in the Stevensville Art & Sculpture Society's annual Scarecrow Contest with its entry, "Peter Pan as an Elderly Man, Still Taking Kids to Neverland." Second place went to Summit Martial Arts, "This One's for Bella" and 3rd Place to Gary Knapp, Tina Schwartzman and Carol Baldwin for "Caws for Celebration." Commissioners consider resolution affirming Growth Policy

The County Commissioners considered passing a resolution affirming the current Growth Policy last week, but after some discussion referred it to legal counsel for evaluation instead. The question for legal determination would be whether the resolution violates the laws that prohibit the board from endorsing ballot issues. In this case it would be the ballot issue calling for repeal of the county’s Growth Policy. More...


‘Show and Tell’ bat had rabies

A dead bat brought by a parent to the Stevensville Elementary School on Monday, September 29, and displayed to students in four fifth grade classrooms and a kindergarten class was subsequently determined to have rabies. Students were invited to touch the bat and offered an antiseptic wipe to use afterwards. As a result, the school, along with county health authorities, is offering free vaccinations to anyone who was possibly exposed to the disease. The vaccination clinic was scheduled for Tuesday, October 7. More...
