Local health clinic seeks county support

     Members of Sapphire Community Health (SCH) board of directors, a proposed clinic to offer health care on a sliding scale fee to Ravalli County residents, asked the Ravalli County Commissioners last week to show the county's support for such a clinic by funding it for three years to the tune of $10,000 annually.

Funds needed for two-year-old kidney patient

Town of Stevi denies public access to tape recording of meeting

     Rumors abounded last week about what transpired at the Stevensville Town Council meeting held on Tuesday, October 15. But when Bitterroot Star publisher Michael Howell inquired at the Town Hall about examining a record of the proceedings, he was told by Town Clerk Nancy Lowell that the tape recording of that meeting would not be made available for public review nor would any minutes of the meeting be available for public scrutiny until official minutes were approved at the next Town Council meeting. Lowell said that she was instructed by Mayor Pat Groninger that this was now the Town¹s new policy.

     With general deer and elk rifle hunting season opening October 27, hunters are being urged to use the utmost care in preventing forest fires. In the past few weeks, there has been a spate of human-caused forest fires on the Bitterroot and Lolo National Forests.
