One person’s trash can definitely be another person’s treasure, witness the trivets and bulletin boards made from wine corks, the rugs and totes made from old t-shirts, the fences and swings and planters made from old tires, etc. And it is becoming ever more clear that in the 21st century we can’t really throw anything away because there is no “away.”
So, Everyone, if you haven’t already done so, please look up “freecycle.” Here’s what you will find:
“Welcome! The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 5,150 groups with 7,875,393 members around the world. It’s a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It’s all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by local volunteers (them’s good people). Membership is free. To sign up, find your community by entering it into the search box above or by clicking on ‘Browse Groups’ above the search box. Have fun!”
There are about 300 members in the Bitterroot Valley group and I have the pleasure of being a moderator. Craigslist and the Bitterroot Yard Sale through Facebook are go-to’s for much of this kind of recycling in the Valley, but Freecycle is here too. Join us!
