The Stevensville boys are playing some tough soccer right now. The team is made up of eight seniors and eight juniors with a ton of experience between them. That experience was evident in the match against Hamilton on Thursday.
Stevensville played an aggressive, up-tempo but deliberate game that kept them on Hamilton’s half of the pitch for much of the game. Chance Coleman made a goal five minutes after the half and Belcourt took a Joseph Daniels assist in for the final Stevensville goal at 76 minutes. Shadrach Stevens scored Hamilton’s only goal off of a penalty kick in the final minute of the match.
Although Stevensville coach Ralph Serrette was not happy with the penalty kick, he was pleased with how his team played.
“We are playing like a team and winning like a team,” he concluded.
Hamilton’s coach Randy Lint said that his team is gaining experience each game. “This sis a nice introduction for my young players to see how it’s going to be. This match is not based upon inherent ability; it’s based upon (their) stage of development. They were up for the battle and they are getting better every game.”
Lint went on to say he was especially proud of the way Hunter Schlender played after coming back from an injury. “This was his best game.
