The last time a Class A team has won both the boys’ and the girls’ championship was in 1992. But now, there will be two new trophies in the display at Corvallis. The boys’ team topped second place Billings Central by 21 ½ points. The girls’ team won by a whopping 58 points over second place Fergus County.
Powered by two wins from Ayden Eickhoff – the 800 and the 1,600 – and a win from Lakyn Connors in the triple jump, the Blue Devils were not contested in the team championship because of their depth. The two, along with Hanna Smith and Sadi Henderson, also won the 4 x 400 relay team by six plus seconds. Connors also finished second in the 400, second in the 100 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles. Henderson was second in the 200, fourth in the 100 and third in the 400. Isabella Pape finished second in the 1,600 and fourth in the 3,200. Jane Booth was fifth in the high jump. The 4×100 relay team finished second. In the field events, Carlie Jessop was fourth in the discus and fifth in the shot put. Courtney Albright finished sixth in the discus and Aspen Evans finished her pole vaulting career with a fourth place finish.
(The pole vault competition was moved to the MSU Field House due to the weather in Bozeman. The competition didn’t finish until almost midnight Saturday. The Corvallis team didn’t get home until 5 a.m. Sunday but were refreshed enough to be in the parade on Monday.)
It was the discus that made the difference for Corvallis in the boys’ competition. The Blue Devils claimed the top three places on the podium in that event. Austin Atkins won with a throw of 152’11”. Branden Butt was second with 151’6” and Jimmy Henderson was third with 146’8”. Ty Berner was third in the pole vault. Stuart Landis was third in the javelin and fourth in the triple jump. Raymond Jessop finished second in the javelin with a throw of 192’ even. He was sixth in the triple jump and sixth in the 110 hurdles. Beau Maus was second in the 400. Colby Henderson was fifth in the 400, and second in both the 800 and the 1,600 races. Chase Stoker was second in the 3,200 and fourth in the 1,600. Emmett Stoker tied for sixth in the high jump.
Dace Moerkerke of Hamilton tied with Stoker in the high jump at six feet. Other Hamilton athletes who placed were Abe Westfall who took second in the triple jump, Karill Apendaile who was sixth in the 800, Easton Albert who was fourth in the 3,200 and Seth Ray who finished fifth in the javelin.
Stevensville finished fifth in the boys’ team scoring. Their 4×100 relay team ran the course in 43.26, four one hundredths of a second faster than Billings Central, and good enough to win. That team was made up of Josh Haynes, Wes Porter, Carson Stevens, and Josh Lords. Haynes also won the triple jump with a leap of 43’9 1/2”. Lords took first in the long jump with 21’1/4”. Stevens was fourth in the long jump and fifth in the 200.
Stevensville’s Britney Chilcott finished her high school career with a fifth place finish in the javelin.
Meghan Kratofil of Hamilton took third in the discus and second in the shot put. Camie Westfall was second in the pole vault.
