I am disappointed to report that the Convention of States Senate Bill SJ2 did NOT pass at the third reading of the bill in Helena two weeks ago. It might be proposed again at the next session, but in the meantime, some educators who were aghast that their senators and representatives do NOT know the Constitution are going to meet with and teach them about the Constitution that they should know since they pledge to defend and support it in an oath they take at the start of every legislative session.
The shocking evidence that they didn’t know was evidenced in the emotional reactions and exclamations coming from them, such as the Constitution could be thrown out at a Convention of States, (COS) or that we will lose our Second Amendment rights, if legislators vote for a COS. It is sad that those who make the laws and expect us to live under them do NOT know the Constitution or how it is ratified. Even worse, most Americans do not know it either.
Some women legislators stated that now is not the time to “open” the Constitution. When asked what they meant by “opening” the Constitution, and when would be a good time, only a blank stare was the answer. When ideologues such as Senator Manzella are asked what her solution is, she doesn’t answer and just walks away. She has no solution either, but all these legislators shamefully voted against the ONE solution left – the Constitution and Article V!
Michael Thompson says
Senator Manzella aligns herself with the thoughts of the Pachyderm club in Ravalli County. They call for Nullification, and not a Convention of States. Manzella was the large voice against the Convention of States in the MT Senate. Article V was written for a reason, and this is the reason – out of control Federal government. We can’t just nullify and ignore.
That is why she does not answer. Because nullification is not the right answer at this point.
Has she read it? I am not to sure these days.
