The Florence Falcon football team made the long trek east to Worden on Saturday, November 5th and defeated Huntley Project, 28-6. It can’t be seen as an upset, as Florence is the defending Class B State Champion, but on paper it looked like Huntley was the slight favorite. The Red Devils had rolled through their competition unbeaten and unchallenged.
But the Falcons wouldn’t be denied. Their offense was surgical in their precision, racking up 401 total yards with a good mix of running and passing. And their defense bedeviled Huntley’s potent running attack, allowing only 248 yards, causing 3 turnovers, and allowing 6 points to a team that averaged nearly 40 points per game during the season.
Once again, Florence’s senior QB Patrick Duchien had a huge game. He threw for three TDs and ran for another as Florence’s offense moved the ball with ease. Drew Wagner, Zack Dixon, and Brodie Hinsdale each had TD receptions for Florence.
Florence (9-2) hosts Jefferson (8-3) in the Class B State semifinal game on Saturday, November 12th at 1 p.m. Florence is looking to avenge a 27-34 loss to Jefferson on September 16th. Florence and Jefferson also played in last year’s semifinal game, which Florence won. Bigfork and Missoula Loyola play in the other semifinal game.
