Hamilton – Edwin “Ed” Spannuth, 99, of Hamilton passed away Thursday, July 14, 2022 at his home. He was born October 28, 1922 in Wisdom, MT, the son of Paul and Hester Spannuth.
The family moved to Conner in 1926 and then to Darby until moving to Hamilton in 1934. Ed graduated from Hamilton High School in 1940. He enjoyed fishing, sports and music.
Ed married his partner of 67 years, Eileen Deffenbaugh, in 1945 and together they farmed for many years east of Hamilton. During those years, Ed served two terms on the Hamilton High School School Board, one term as a county commissioner and spent 14 years calling square dances.
Ed ran a service station and snowmobile business for many years in Hamilton until he and Eileen retired. After retirement Ed and Eileen traveled extensively for several years and spent winters in Arizona.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert, who was a U.S. Navy Pilot lost during WWII in 1944; his wife, Eileen; his son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Janet Spannuth; and his grandson, Taff. He is survived by his son, Robert (Darolyn); his granddaughters, Victoria and Elisabeth; and his great-grandson, Benjamin. Ed wanted the Jim Woods family and the Berdells family to know how much he valued their friendship.
“I have enjoyed my stay on this earth in the greatest century the world has ever known and will ever know.” “I spent the best 67 years with my partner, Eileen, always working and playing together, year after year.” – Ed
