Stevensville School District is undergoing a major rebranding to coincide with the renovation of the school buildings and property.
According to Chance Edman, Activities Director, who spearheaded the project, he had the initial. concept and a company helped bring it to life. “The timing was right with the new high schools as the catalyst,” said Edman.
Edman, who has served as Activities Director for the past year after returning from a seven-year stint as an AD at an international school in Malaysia, said he grew up in Stevensville and wanted to have something that was fresh and fitting for the times, but still representative of the community.
“Who are we as a school? Who are we as a town?” said Edman. “What are some of the values that define us? I wanted this to summarize who we are as a community. Our town is too unique and our history is too unique to be using someone else’s brand.”
Edman was referring to the logo that will be phased out, which is a copy of the Georgia Tech logo.
The new logo, which still reflects the “Yellowjacket” theme, incorporates a tribute to St. Mary’s Peak in the wing, which is formed by an “S”. Edman said that the font for the lettering is also unique and one-of-a-kind. The traditional colors of yellow/gold and black are being replaced with more of a metallic gold and black. “Beginning to end, this is something unique to Stevensville,” said Edman.
Edman said he worked with a committee on this, talking to parents, students, coaches, teachers, and the school board. “We wanted to make sure we were on the right track.” The facilities committee had to give their approval as well.
“The old logo has been around for about 20 years,” said Edman. “It’s time for something fresh and interesting. “
Edman noted that this will be a “gradual roll out.” Over time, as equipment and uniforms wear out, they will be replaced with items that bear the new images and branding.
He also noted that people will still be able to buy the old stuff, too, as there’s been interest from folks in the community who are nostalgic and also to purchase as collector’s items.
