Stop fighting, start learning

August 4, 2020 by Guest Post

By Kris Bayer, Hamilton

OMG… which narrative do you believe? There are so many! How do you really know which one is true and updated? In the beginning of the shutdown, we all stopped. Everyone of us paused for a time because no one knew what was real, what was needed, what was true.

As time went on we listened to this and that, to the speculation and simulations, to the so called experts and entertainment machine, social media blasts and blah blah blah. At some point we just had a mess. Now we have people believing their narrative and wanting to shove it down others’ throats as if it is true, and we want to make the gods of government do our bidding as if they are the parents that need to keep us safe.

I ask myself, what is at the bottom of all of this? It seems to me… our collective myth says that political governments are necessary, people need to obey the governor and the health board and official no matter what they say (unless you don’t agree and then you can shout and protest), and we need to wait ‘til the government solves problems for us. Make us share. Make people wear masks. Make us do what we think they should do.

At what point do we grow up and become responsible adults?

Regardless of the narrative you like, we still do not know the whole truth and nothing but the truth! Our collective science understanding has not been updated from the germ theory to the new research showing why some get sick and some don’t, even without antibodies. OMG, can we stop fighting, drop our agendas/narratives, and be willing to learn from others?

Good one, Kris. Keep on beating that drum. It might make a difference.

It seems to me that the reason we are not willing to learn from others is that we might have to admit they are right and that we are wrong, which would necessitate change on our part. This applies to anything in life, not just the corona thing, and is resisted by many people for one reason: because it is hard.
