By Kathy Dufresne, Stevensville
Enough is enough! I am a Stevensville resident for now over 50 years. I yearn for the years when I would visit with a close friend and council member whose only concern was getting things right with the fire department. The turmoil that we are seeing with our present council is tearing our special town apart and it is heartbreaking. Following the last mayoral election, it was shared that every employee of the town was ready to resign had Brandon Dewey not been elected. Just recently all town employees signed a letter because of bullying and harassment by the council president and concern over how the council was governing.
Because I could go on and on, I am writing to ask Bob Michalson and Robin Holcomb to take a step back and begin working as a unit with the Mayor. Bullying, harassment, lying and general animosity can no longer be tolerated. If returning to a harmonious unit is not possible, then resignation is a good option. Having said that, I have known Brandon Dewey since HS days as a former student and I believe he is honest, hardworking and trying to do what is right for Stevensville. Brandon, please take every step carefully and correctly.
To our community members, it is also time for civil discourse to take the lead. Yelling at people as they leave the council meetings and online threats are absolutely the wrong way to bring our community together. It is time to remember that we can agree to disagree while we work for our town.
I urge all Stevensville community members to start asking questions to many and stop listening to the general gossip. Know the facts. Please take an active role in what is going on in our local government. Enough is enough!
