One would have thought the game would have been over in the first inning after Stevensville blasted off a 9-1 lead at the end of the first. But it wasn’t over yet. The same thought may have gone through a few minds after four innings when Stevensville had a 17-5 lead in the Southwest A conference game. But the game still wasn’t over yet.
“We never overlook Corvallis,” said Stevensville coach Joey Wark. “They are very strong at the bat.”
That was true. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Corvallis knocked in eight runs to narrow the gap to six runs. But after that barrage, no one in the stands or the Yellowjacket dugout were thinking the game was over yet. By then it was evident that Corvallis was not done and was a threat. Each team went on to score six more runs, making the final score, 22-16.
Each team had three different pitchers with Jessie Newman taking the win and Gabby Kreuger taking the loss.
Corvallis coach Steve Tintzman said he was proud of his team and their effort. The team slammed three home runs and for all three batters, this was their first home run of the season. Macee Greenwood was the leadoff batter and in the bottom of the first, she slammed one over the left field fence for the score. Raili Paddock hit a high, long ball that caught the wind and sailed over center field. Cierra Jessop also hit a high ball that sailed over center field for the homer.
Paddock had three hits including the homer. She also had a double and a single and knocked in five runners. Jessop had two hits and three RBIs. Greenwood had three hits and two RBIs. Ashlynn Nixon hit three doubles and had two RBIs. Sami Knapp had a double and an RBI. Maria Hickey and Megan Bradshaw each had a hit and Bradshaw had an RBI.
Stevensville’s Syd Paul had three hits including a triple and a double and five RBIs. Kaylee Berning had a hit every time she went to bat, six times. She also had three doubles and an RBI. Haley Kampka had three hits with a double and three RBIs. Taylor Springer had a single but knocked in three runners. Catcher Dani Trangmoe had a double and two RBIs. Cassi Kopsa had two hits with a double and an RBI.
Florence played 10 innings and won two games against Eureka. Both games were ended after five innings because of the 10-run rule. In the first game, Florence topped Eureka, 15-5. Shannon Byrne was the winning pitcher. Emily Kinnaman had a home run and two RBIs. Dani Zahn had a triple and four RBIs. Kasidy Yeoman had a double and three RBIs. Natalie Dulac had two hits, and Jaidyn Larson, Rilee Mangun and Danara Greer each had hits.
In the second game, Florence went five innings and topped Eureka, 12-2. Kylie Kovatch was the winning pitcher. Yeoman had three hits including two doubles and two RBIs. Zahn also had three hits and two RBIs. Avory Escobar had two hits and a double. Byrne, Jessica Johnson, Kolbi Wood and Kovatch all had RBIs.
